Mass Media Development of "Celebrities"

How has the mass media developed the concept of "celebrity"?
Our world, especially our nation, is bombarded with constant ideals for life such as: image, quality, quantity, acceptance, and success. We are coerced both directly and indirectly to wear name brand clothing, have the nicest car/truck, date the hottest guy or girl; men can't have feelings and must be the sterotypical "macho man", Women are objects of sex and need to have a perfect body, perfect face, perfect career, and must please the "man." We are a society of fakes, hypocrites, and low-lifes, and celebrities are not the exception.
This is how the media has exposed all of us, as well as famous celebrities, by telling us what we should be and do. If the media doesn't directly affect us, then the media will use celebrities of popularity and high demand to trap us into a blind, downward spiral of ingratitude and failure. Celebs are focal points of us and the media. The media uses them to expose what we should and shouldn't mimic, and most Americans fall into this lie. Our individual mind is smashed with unoriginal and unachievable images and ideals all portrayed through our favorite athlete, movie star, or talk show host. We are told to wear what they wear, go to the clubs they frequent, drive the cars they flaunt, show of the partner they seemingly "love", and be the center of attention.
The media really is behind all confusion and manipulation about image and aspirations yet they are extremely successful because most of us fall victim to their traps. The mass media has developed the concept of celebrities to be this foggy, unrealistic icon for advertisement and revenue. All I have to say is, bump that!! you can't take away my identity because your tactics are weak and unachievable. The End
